“Yellow Dust” and Smog – regular topics of conversations in Seoul – and often attributed to unsustainable business and manufacturing practices in China. Yet the two issues are merely symptoms of climate change and results of consumerism and unsustainable design practice – in most industrialised nations not just in East Asia.
On October 10th and 11th, Prof. Sven Schelwach of IDAS gave a guest lecture and workshop on Design for Sustainability (D4S) at Beijing University of Technology.
In his lecture Sven explored D4S core principles and their practical application in contemporary industrial design. Using a Reflective Practice approach, the workshop aimed at raising students’ awareness of the impact of design decisions, as well as discussing the benefits of cross-cultural communication, prototyping and diversity in teamwork projects.
